These are the best orange cookies with orange frosting are full of orange zesty flavor! Sweet and buttery, these orange sugar cookies are topped with a thick layer of orange cream cheese frosting!

The best part about these cookies is that they are sugar cookies made without baking soda or powder! They’re topped with an easy orange buttercream frosting and the cream cheese adds a nice tang! If you’re not craving buttercream frosting I added a note below on how to make orange an orange glaze on top of the cookie!

Before you Start: Heat oven to 375F and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Step 1. Mix room temperature butter, confectioners sugar, blood orange juice + zest and egg white into a mixing bowl until smooth and combined.

Step 2. Next add in all purpose flour and mix again. Then roll out cookies into individual balls and then chill before baking if you want more puffy/fudgey cookies. If you want flatter cookies you can bake right away! Bake 10 minutes and then make frosting as you wait for cookies to cool.

Step 3. To make frosting, mix room temperature butter and cream cheese with confectioners sugar and blood orange juice on medium high speed with the paddle attachment. Spread frosting on to cookies and then enjoy!

  • Room Temperature Butter: While this is a super easy sugar cookie recipe, making sure that the butter is room temperature helps make sure that
  • Weigh cookie balls: To make sure that the cookies all bake at the same time, weighing each cookie ball makes sure they bake evenly!
  • Chill cookie dough: For this recipe I chilled my cookie dough for 1 hour before baking as I wanted them to look more dome like! For flatter cookies, you can bake right away!

Don’t like buttercream? Make an easy and delicious orange glaze by mixing 2 cups of powdered sugar + 1/4 cup blood orange juice!

  • Room Temperature: Store at room temperature in an an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
  • Fridge: Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
  • Freezer: While the cookie dough can be frozen, make a fresh batch of buttercream or orange glaze for the best taste!
    • Cookie Dough: Roll cookie dough into individual balls before placing them in an airtight container or freezer safe bag. They will be good for up to 3 months but note the date of when it was made on the container! Thaw cookie dough for 20-30 minutes before baking.
    • Baked Cookies: Cool cookies completely and then place them in an airtight container or freezer safe bag and put in the freezer for up to 3 months. They will be good for up to 3 months but note the date of when it was baked on the container! Thaw cookies at room temperature or microwave before eating.

  • 1 1/4 Cup Confectioners Sugar (150 Grams)
  • 2 2/3 Cup Flour (325 Grams)
  • 1 Egg White (Grade A Large)
  • 2 tbsp Blood Orange Juice + 2 tbsp zest (29 Grams)

  • 8 tbsp Unsalted Butter (113 Grams / 1 Stick)
  • 2 Cups Confectioners Sugar (240 Grams)
  • 4 Ounces Full Fat Cream Cheese (113 Grams / Half a Block)
  • 3 tbsp Blood Orange Juice (42 Grams)
