This is a moist and delicious banana bread that has swirls of cream cheese in every bite! This cream cheese swirl banana bread combines two classic American desserts in one delicious banana loaf!

πŸ—’οΈ Step by step instructions

Before you Start: Heat oven to 350F and grease a 9β€³x5β€³ loaf pan.

Step 1: Make cream cheese filling by mixing room temperature cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla extract in a bowl and set aside.

Step 2: Mix oil, mashed bananas, eggs and sour cream in a bowl. Then add granulated sugar and whisk until combined. Next sift in flour and baking soda into the bowl and mix till combined.

  • Flour and baking soda added to batter.

Step 3. Pour batter in loaf pan and swirl cream cheese filling with a fork or chopstick. Add any additional toppings (I added in pecans) on top!

Step 4. Bake for 60-65 minutes and cool before eating!

  • Room Temperature Ingredients: This is especially important for the cream cheese filling – if you don’t have time to wait warm it up in the oven in 10 second spurts.
  • To have more even swirls of cream cheese:
    • 1. Pour half the amount of batter in loaf pan
    • 2. Pour half of the cream cheese filling evenly on top of the batter
    • 3. Pour remaining half of the batter and cream cheese filling and swirl.

No Sour Cream? Use Greek Yogurt or Full Fat Yogurt!

Not enough bananas? Swap 1 banana with 1 grated apple.

🧺 Storage tips

  • Room Temperature: Store at room temperature in an an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Fridge: Cool banana bread completely and then store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
  • Freezer: Cool bread completely and then place it in an airtight container or freezer safe bag and put in the freezer for up to 3 months. It will be good for up to 3 months but note the date of when it was baked on the container!

How to mash bananas?

  1. Potato Masher: This is a super quick way to mash your bananas but still have textures.
  2. Food Processor: Make sure you lightly pulse the bananas and you don’t over mix!
  3. 2 Forks: It’s easier to use a larger bowl when mashing banana!

How to ripen bananas quickly?

Bake bananas at 300F for 30-40 minutes with their peels on. Make sure you let your bananas cool down before mashing.

Banana Bread

  • 1 3/4 Cups All Purpose Flour (210 Grams)
  • 3 Medium Mashed Bananas (250 Grams)
  • 1 Cup White Granulated Sugar (200 Grams)
  • 2/3 Cup Vegetable Oil (160 Grams)
  • 2 Eggs (Grade A Large)
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda (4 Grams)
  • 1/2 Cup Sour Cream (123 Grams)
  • 1 tsp Salt (6 Grams)

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 Oz Cream Cheese (225 Grams / 1 Package)
  • 1/3 Cup Granulated Sugar (67 Grams)
  • 1 Egg (Grade A Large)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract (4 Grams)

Instructions
 

Cream Cheese Filling

  • Mix room temperature cream cheese, egg, granlated sugar and vanilla extract and set aside.

Banana Bread

  • Heat oven to 350F and grease a 9"x5" loaf pan.
  • Mix oil, mashed bananas, eggs and sour cream in a bowl.
  • Next add in granulated sugar and mix again.
  • Then sift in flour and baking soda into the bowl and mix till combined.
  • Finally swirl in cream cheese filling and add any additional toppings on top of bread.
  • Baking for 60-65 minutes until done!
